Frutality has become a Certified B Corporation™, the certification awarded by B Lab™ to companies that demonstrate a verified positive impact on people and the planet. It’s not a self-awarded title: it’s an external assessment that measures, point by point, whether what we say we do is really what we do.
In this article, we’ll walk you through exactly what the B Corp™ certification is, what it evaluates, how it’s earned, and what it means, in very practical terms, for the companies that already trust us to bring fresh fruit and healthy snacks to their office.

What is B Corp certification?
B Corp™ certification (Certified B Corporation™) is a seal awarded by B Lab™, an international nonprofit organization, to companies that demonstrate verified performance across five areas of impact: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.
The difference from a label a company simply gives itself is that B Corp™ certification requires passing an external assessment (the B Impact Assessment) and, on top of that, writing the legal commitment to all of its stakeholders (not just shareholders) into the company’s own bylaws. Today, the B Corp™ community includes more than 11,000 companies across more than 100 countries and 160 industries, over 300 of them in Spain, alongside companies like Patagonia, Triodos Bank, Camper, and Ecoalf.
Why does it matter to be a B Corp company?
Being a B Corp™ company matters for two reasons: one internal, one external.
Internally, it forces continuous measurement and improvement of things many companies only pay lip service to. The certification isn’t earned once and forgotten: it has to be recertified every three years, against increasingly demanding standards.
Externally, it’s a signal verified by an independent third party, not a claim made by the company itself. And that carries more and more weight in purchasing decisions, especially among HR, Procurement, and CSR departments, which need to justify their supplier decisions with data, not just promises. If you’re approaching this from the HR angle, you can dig deeper in our complete guide to employee wellbeing for HR teams (link pending an English version), where we cover why wellbeing, and who backs it, has become a strategic argument.
The five areas B Lab™ evaluates
The B Impact Assessment, the evaluation B Lab™ uses to measure every candidate company, is organized into five areas. Here’s what it looks at in each one, and how we live it at Frutality.
Governance
Evaluates a company’s mission, ethics, and transparency: whether its social purpose is built into its decision-making and bylaws, not just its messaging.
Workers
Measures how a company treats its team: compensation, benefits, training, safety, and culture. At Frutality, this translates into equal pay, gender balance in leadership positions, and real work-life balance measures, such as remote work and flexible hours.
Community
Looks at a company’s relationship with suppliers, diversity, inclusion, and local engagement. This is where our agreements with Fundación Adecco and Grupo SIFU come in, along with our donations to food banks and nonprofits.
Environment
Reviews the environmental impact of the operation: energy and water use, waste, and supply chain. It’s the area most supported by our ISO 14064-1 certification, our 1.2% shrinkage rate, and our work with local farmers under fair pricing.
Customers
Assesses whether a company treats its customers ethically and transparently, and whether its product or service creates a positive impact for them. In our case, it shows up in the direct, hands-on relationship our Fruit Managers build, with no middlemen and no fine print.
How B Corp certification is earned
The process is neither quick nor automatic. Here are its main steps.
1. The B Impact Assessment
The company completes a free self-assessment, the B Impact Assessment, which measures its performance across the five areas above. To qualify for certification, it needs to reach a minimum score of 80 out of 200 points.
2. Verification by B Lab™
A B Lab™ team reviews the submitted documentation, cross-checks the answers and, depending on company size, may request interviews or additional documentation. This is the step that turns a self-assessment into a real certification.
3. Legal commitment
The company writes into its bylaws a commitment to consider the impact of its decisions on all of its stakeholders (workers, community, environment, and customers), not just its shareholders.
4. Recertification every three years
The certification isn’t permanent: every three years, the company goes through the process again, against standards that B Lab™ updates and tightens over time.
The commitments that already back Frutality’s B Corp™ certification
B Corp™ certification doesn’t replace our other certifications: it adds to them and puts them in context.
ISO 14064-1: keeping our carbon footprint in check
Certifies that we measure and actively work to reduce our carbon footprint, with optimized delivery routes and 100% European fruit.
Reforestation with Tree-Nation
For every client, we plant a tree with Tree-Nation, a certified initiative that lets us regenerate forests and offset the emissions from our deliveries.
UN Global Compact Sustainable Suppliers Program
We completed this UN Global Compact training program, run alongside ICEX España and Fundación ICO, covering the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
Social commitment: Fundación Adecco and Grupo SIFU
We hold agreements with Fundación Adecco and Grupo SIFU to support the workplace inclusion of people with disabilities and women survivors of gender-based violence.
What it means for the companies that trust Frutality
If your company already works with Frutality (or is considering it), B Corp™ certification has a very practical translation: it gives you third-party verified data for your own sustainability strategy, instead of having to take our word for it.
This matters more every year. Regulations like CSRD and the upcoming CSDDD are pushing sustainability requirements down a company’s entire value chain, suppliers included. Working with a B Corp™-certified office fruit supplier and healthy snacks provider simplifies reporting for your Procurement or CSR department, and reduces the risk of having to justify, without data, why you chose the supplier you chose. The same applies if we’re also managing your full office pantry through Despensing.
Frutality tip
If your company reports on sustainability (a CSR report, a CSRD filing) or simply wants to justify your purchasing decisions internally, ask your suppliers for their certifications in writing, not just statements of intent.
Why does this work? A third-party verified data point carries more weight, in any report or audit, than a well-written paragraph. We hand you ours without you having to chase us for them. 🌱
Frequently asked questions
What does it mean for a company to be a B Corp?
It means the company has passed an external assessment (the B Impact Assessment) that measures its real performance in governance, workers, community, environment, and customers, and that it has written the legal commitment to all of its stakeholders into its bylaws.
Who grants B Corp certification?
It’s granted by B Lab™, an international nonprofit organization that drives the B Corp™ movement and verifies companies that meet its standards.
How long does B Corp certification last, and does it need to be renewed?
Yes. The certification is recertified every three years, through a new assessment that confirms the company has maintained or improved its performance.
How is B Corp different from certifications like ISO 14001?
ISO certifications typically focus on one specific management system (environmental, for example). B Corp™ evaluates the company as a whole (governance, people, community, environment, and customers) and also requires a legal commitment in the bylaws, not just a certified management system.
How does Frutality’s B Corp certification affect companies that are already clients?
It doesn’t change the day-to-day service: the fresh fruit, the healthy snacks, and the relationship with your Fruit Manager stay exactly the same. What changes is that you now have a third-party verified data point for your own sustainability communications or reporting.
Where can I verify that Frutality is a Certified B Corporation?
In B Lab™’s official directory, and on our own certifications and sustainability page.
